I'll be honest, I really don't use checks anymore. The last time I got a box of checks was about 4 years ago and I have only used about half of them. I use my check card, cash, and credit cards. Most businesses that I patronize have a sign that clearly states "No Personal Checks" or some variation thereof. My dry cleaner will take a check, but greatly prefers cash or plastic to save the hassle of depositing the check. My barber will only accept cash. Most restaurants will not accept checks. Most stores in my area will not accept checks. Gas stations certainly won't take checks in my area. For the determined check-writer the only regular use for a check is to pay a bill or to buy groceries. If you're traveling outside your home area good luck trying to find a place that will accept an out-of-town check. Even my bank told me that I would have to wait up to 7 days for when I deposited a birthday check from my aunt before the funds would post to my account. Does the personal check really have a purpose these days?
